A promise to Gau Mata
Varanasi has always lived at the meeting point of the sacred and the everyday. Here, the cow is not livestock — she is Gau Mata, mother, provider, and the quiet keeper of a way of life that modern India is slowly forgetting.
We started Chandrahass because we saw that way of life disappearing on both ends: temples were filling their havans with synthetic dhoop loaded with chemical binders, and the women who once tended cows and shaped dung cakes by hand were left with no place in that new economy. We asked a simple question — what if the answer to both problems was the same?
Purity, built into a livelihood
Rather than treating cow protection as an act of charity separate from commerce, we built cow dung processing into a livelihood. Every packet of Saptaashwah dhoop is a small act of goseva — it creates demand for cow dung, which means demand for keeping cows fed, sheltered, and cared for instead of abandoned.
The more dhoop we sell, the more cows stay protected in our villages around Varanasi.
A market, not just a skill
We work through rural women's Self-Help Groups (SHGs) — women who already understood cow dung, herbs, and hawan samagri better than any factory chemist ever could, because this knowledge lived in their homes for generations. What they lacked was not skill, but a market. Chandrahass gives them one.
Every tikki you burn puts wages directly into a woman's hands in a village near Varanasi, letting her earn without leaving her home, her family, or her land — and slowing the migration of rural families toward overcrowded cities in search of work.

The roots beneath the brand
Chandrahass and its Saptaashwah range are proud initiatives of Kashi Agro Industries, a Varanasi-based rural development company. Long before Saptaashwah, Kashi Agro was already in manufacturing of organic fertilizer.
